Known for his fingerstyle and nylon string artistry, Grammy Award®–winning guitarist, composer, and producer Markus Illko draws from a wide range of influences — “probably a mix between jazz and world music,” he notes — while maintaining a signature clarity and emotional depth. His versatility has made him a sought after musician across multiple worlds: studio sessions, film and television scoring, commercial work, live performance, and educational institutions.
He is also a member of the Grammy®. winning group The String Revolution, whose duet of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” with Tommy Emmanuel earned international acclaim.
Markus has written and scored music for film, television, commercials, computer games, and corporate productions, including work for: The Olympic Games, Lamborghini, Prime Time Emmy Awards, Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club and A Madea Christmas, Race Across America, Glocknerman 1 & 2, Deliver Us From Evil, Dominion, and broadcasts for Austria’s ORF and France’s NRJ. His work spans electronic pop production, orchestral projects, and acoustic performance, reflecting a rare ability to move fluidly between genres and mediums.
Markus teaches guitar workshops and is frequently invited to festivals and universities across Europe. Markus continues to bridge continents, disciplines, and musical traditions.
